geodes
I am sitting here thinking about my experience working at the Gem & Mineral Show that happened this weekend at the PNE.
I was hired to help set the event up and work the geode cracking booth all weekend. I knew I was going to crack rocks open, however, I didn't expect that I would have to pitch and sell them to people too.
It was fun interacting with people, explaining to them how a geode is formed over millions of years and that they would be the first eyes to see what was inside of it.
People of all ages came to my booth to pick their geode.
When kids were trying to choose which one they wanted, I jokingly said "Do not choose with your eyes, use your heart and imagination to choose as it's whats inside that you want to see!"
But that statement resonated with me.
As I paid attention, I noticed the adults choosing with their eyes while the children choose differently.
Some of the kids closed their eyes to pick, others picked the "ugly" ones, some picked the smallest ones.
The common result though was once the geode was cracked open, the kids usually ended up with the most beautiful ones.
They chose the ones everyone else passed up.
They chose the ones everyone else deemed ugly.
They chose...
they chose...
They chose without any filters in place.
They saw beyond the surface.
They saw the beauty within.
Now if we can all learn to see the world like this.
